Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has revealed that he urged a group of Fulani visitors to persuade former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race. Kwankwaso made the disclosure on Thursday while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
According to Kwankwaso, the group had visited his residence for a courtesy call, and he used the opportunity to ask them to speak with Atiku before returning to their communities. He also said he knew Atiku well and had worked closely with him in the past.
Meanwhile, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal said he had persuaded Peter Obi and Kwankwaso to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Lawal claimed Kwankwaso had been sceptical about joining the party because he feared Atiku’s presence could prevent it from making progress.
