Republican candidate Byron Donalds has emerged victorious in Florida’s 2026 gubernatorial election, defeating Democratic candidate David Jolly in the November 3 poll, according to projections by CBS News.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) congratulated Donalds, praising his campaign and describing him as a champion of conservative values. His victory was also supported by endorsements from US President Donald Trump and outgoing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

If officially confirmed, Donalds will become Florida’s first Black governor. During the campaign, he described himself as a common-sense candidate and criticised Jolly, accusing him of holding extreme political positions.
