Vice President Kashim Shettima has said the Federal Government is working to strengthen Nigeria’s creative industry through increased trade, investment, research and development, while creating jobs and attracting more investment.

Speaking at Afreximbank’s CANEX Weekend 2026 in Lagos, Shettima called for stronger collaboration among African countries to expand creative businesses across borders. Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole said the Nigeria government was also improving intellectual property protection and unlocking more than $600 million in financing for digital and creative enterprises through the iDICE programme.

Afreximbank President George Elombi said Africa’s creative economy was worth about $60 billion but accounted for only about two per cent of the global creative industry. He said the bank had increased its creative economy financing commitment to $2 billion and stressed the need for greater investment in distribution, branding, marketing and intellectual property to ensure African creators retain more of the value generated by their work.
