The Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has explained why he stepped aside from his presidential ambition in support of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general election.
Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor, said his decision was based on Obi’s credibility, their shared political ideology and the need to respect the power rotation arrangement between Northern and Southern Nigeria. He made this known while speaking with journalists at his residence in Kano on Sunday.
He also warned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar against contesting the 2027 presidential election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that the South should complete its turn before power returns to the North. Kwankwaso maintained that he and Obi share common goals and can manage the country’s affairs together.
