Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Ogun Central, Iyabo Obasanjo, has denied reports that she is considering an alliance with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). In a statement issued by her campaign spokesperson, Peter Macjob, Obasanjo said she had never met the former Anambra State governor for political discussions.
The clarification followed a social media report claiming that a proposed Rainbow Coalition was emerging in Ogun Central, with Obasanjo allegedly considering an endorsement of Obi. She dismissed the report as fabricated, insisting that no meetings, consultations or agreements had taken place between them regarding a possible political alliance.
Iyabo Obasanjo reaffirmed her support for President Bola Tinubu, explaining that her position was based on her longstanding political relationship with him and the respect he had shown her. Her campaign organisation maintained that she remained the PDP’s duly cleared senatorial candidate for Ogun Central and was focused on her bid for the Senate.
