Alwan Hassan, a spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has alleged that some ministers pay billions of naira to secure government appointments. Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Thursday, he said the practice encourages corruption because appointees may seek to recover their money after assuming office.
Hassan maintained that the alleged practice predates the APC administration and is not limited to ministers serving under the ruling party. He argued that treating public appointments as investments creates incentives for officials to seek financial returns rather than focus on public service.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State APC has vowed to hold Governor Seyi Makinde and members of his administration accountable for the state’s finances after he leaves office. The party’s statement followed the state House of Assembly’s approval of a fresh ₦100 billion loan, which has sparked renewed debate over government borrowing and financial accountability.
