FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has criticised Peter Obi and his supporters ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, telling them to vote for the former Anambra governor as “president of social media.” Speaking at a political stakeholders’ forum in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike questioned what he described as a preference for politicians who were not genuine, saying he wanted a leader who would speak plainly.
Wike also defended President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, arguing that previous administrations had described the policy as a scam but had not taken the same step. While acknowledging that the cost of living remained high, he said the economic reforms would eventually bring relief and claimed that states had benefited from improved government finances.
Turning to developments in the FCT, Wike highlighted new police stations, road projects and changes to the territory’s civil service as achievements under Tinubu’s administration. He said the Apo-Karshi Road, awarded in 2010, would be commissioned in November and that several other projects were expected to be unveiled in December. He urged residents to support Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027, presenting the administration’s projects as evidence of its performance.
