Organisers of the Ballon d’Or, France Football, have clarified the period of performances considered for the 2026 award, confirming that only displays between August 3, 2025, and July 19, 2026, will be assessed. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on October 26, with 30 players nominated for the honour.
Among the nominees are Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal, Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane and Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé. In a post on its official X account on Thursday, France Football explained the eligibility period in line with the award’s official regulations, which include performances in international competitions.
As a result, performances from the current 2026/27 season fall outside the assessment period and will not influence this year’s voting. Voting reportedly closed last month, meaning players’ recent goals, assists and match-winning contributions will not affect the final outcome.
