Flying Officer Isa Muyiwa Adeshina, one of the 25 people killed in the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft crash in Ondo State, died just nine days after achieving his long-held dream of becoming a commissioned officer. He was among those aboard NAF 931 when it crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State on Monday.
Adeshina emerged as the best graduating cadet of Branch Commission Course 3 and received his award during the cadets’ passing-out parade at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna on September 26. He had joined the Air Force in 2010 as an air intelligence operator, later rising to sergeant before being selected for the commissioning programme and formally becoming a flying officer.
Before joining the military, Adeshina worked as a physics and mathematics teacher at As-Siraat Comprehensive College in Lagos, where he later became vice-principal. Former students and colleagues remembered him as intelligent, diligent and committed, with some describing the lessons and values he shared as an influence that continued to shape their lives.
