Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged Portugal coach Jorge Jesus to apologise to Cristiano Ronaldo over their recent dispute, warning that the coach could eventually lose his job if the situation is not properly handled. Ferdinand made the comments while reacting to the disagreement between the pair over Ronaldo’s role and playing time with the national team.
Ferdinand said Jesus should publicly acknowledge if he believes he handled the situation wrongly. His comments came after Jesus indicated following Portugal’s Nations League victory over Norway that he did not need to apologise to anyone, despite the controversy surrounding Ronaldo’s departure from the team’s training camp.
Meanwhile, Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença has described the disagreement between Ronaldo and Jesus as a misunderstanding and maintained that the 41-year-old forward remains part of Portugal’s plans. Proença said there is time to resolve the matter internally, while Ronaldo’s return to the national team remains open if he is selected by the coach.
